The Call of Cthulhu
About Call of Cthulhu RPG
Investigators should determine what they are up against before diving head-first into the abyss. Quality time in the library pouring over city records or ancient texts will often prove more beneficial than stocking up at the gun shop. Combing an area of interest for physical clues can be invaluable, however, not all doors are safe to open and investigators should calculate the potential dangers and consequences.
A diverse group of investigators is ideal. Although intelligence and education are powerful tools, there can be valuable skills a chimney sweep will provide to situations that a tenured professor at a university does not possess.
Finally, do not approach CoC in the same manner as a dungeon delving adventurer in a fantasy world RPG. Your investigator, even if a capable soldier, will not be strong enough to survive a head-to-head scuffle with many of the supernatural forces in the universe of H.P. Lovecraft. Even a few common gangsters could put a quick end to your battle against the unknown. Intellect and preparation will always be your greatest weapons.
